A New Generation of PU Seating

Hewei's manufacturing process utilizes advanced German polyurethane production technology combined with reaction injection molding (RIM), a process that integrates liquid delivery, metering, mixing, reaction, and molding into a single production stage.


The result is a PU seat featuring a naturally formed self-skin layer ranging from 1 to 2.5 millimeters in thickness. Unlike conventional rigid seating products, the new design provides localized elasticity while maintaining overall structural support.


According to the company, users benefit from a softer seating experience, improved warmth retention, and enhanced ergonomic comfort.


"Our development team wanted to move beyond the traditional concept of public seating," said a company representative. "Public spaces deserve seating that not only lasts longer but also offers a more welcoming experience for users."


Addressing Industry-Wide Challenges

The addition of spring plates beneath support components also increases compression resistance and enhances shock absorption capabilities.


Independent testing has shown that the seating system can achieve performance levels consistent with internationally recognized BIFMA standards, demonstrating improved fatigue resistance and durability during prolonged use.

Proprietary Surface Coating Technology

In addition to structural improvements, Hewei has introduced a proprietary transparent PUR surface coating technology that the company describes as an industry-first innovation.


Traditional PU seating surfaces are typically finished with a single paint layer. Research conducted by Hewei in collaboration with academic institutions revealed that molded PU surfaces contain microscopic pores that may allow moisture and contaminants to penetrate over time.


Such penetration can contribute to bacterial growth, mold formation, discoloration, surface degradation, and premature aging. The newly developed PUR transparent coating creates an additional protective barrier designed to minimize these risks.


The coating offers resistance to water penetration, staining, abrasion, and high temperatures while helping preserve the appearance of the seat surface during daily use. The company reports that seating treated with the new coating can maintain performance for more than six years under normal operating conditions.
